UPDF Suspends Defence Cooperation with Germany Over Ambassador ‘s Misconduct .

On May 25th, the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) immediately suspended all ongoing defense and military cooperation activities with the Federal Republic of Germany. Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defense Public Information, shared this announcement on his X page. He stated that the decision was made in response to credible intelligence reports indicating that the current German Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Mathias Schauer, is actively engaged in subversive activities within the country.

The German Ambassador is being accused of supporting groups that oppose the government and breaching international diplomatic protocols by interfering in Uganda’s internal affairs, contrary to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. In the X tweet, it was stated, “The suspension will remain in effect until the full resolution of the matter regarding the Ambassador’s involvement with hostile pseudo-political-military forces operating in the country against the Ugandan government.”

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a group associated with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has planned a demonstration at the German Embassy on June 5, 2025, in response to the accusations against Ambassador Matthias Schauer. However, there has been no response from the German side.
