Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day observed on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management globally.
The State Minister for Education and Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang represented the First Lady, Mama Janet Museveni to preside over this year’s World Menstrual Day where he launched the Menstrual Health Guidelines for Schools and Education Institutions in Uganda
The Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHDay2025) is about breaking the silence around periods, ending stigma, break taboos surrounding menstruation, raise awareness and ensuring every girl can manage her menstruation with dignity and support at home, in school, and in the community. This year’s theme was Breaking Cycles, Building Futures” as a way to remind people to prioritizing menstrual health, fight teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and gender inequality.
Sexual Reproductive Human Right in Uganda is still having lots of gaps as some girls donot have access to pads, water, face stigma from the male gender and thus, some end up not going to school.
In a speech read by Minister of State for Education & Sports Hon.Peter Ogwang, the First Lady Janet Museveni said they will continue strengthening WASH infrastructure and working with partners to scale up access to menstrual health hygiene information in Homes, Schools and Community
In Uganda various Organisations and Initiatives have joined In the fight for Sexual Reproductive Health Right by providing these girls with reusable pads, teaching them on good hygiene, stigma and advocating for their Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.
