As of May 27th , Mathias Mpuuga unveiled his new political party named the Democratic Front a new political party that is to deliberate in bringing freshness to Uganda’s political landscape. Democratic Font birth is as a result of a coalition of parties, the Social Democratic Party, Democratic Alliance and People’s Democratic Party. The Party is under the slogan “Real Change Act Now.”
Hon. Mathias Mpuuga says It is born out our motherland’s need for meaningful transformation that transcends the tired cycle of recycled ideologies. “This comes not a disruption, but a necessity born of the failures of the status quo. It is a home for logical thinkers, progressive minds, and those who believe in political ethics and disciplined service delivery.” He tweeted on his X page.

Mathias Mpuuga who was the former leader of Opposition, ex founder of National Unity Power ( N.U.P) and Nyendo-Mukungwe Member Of Parliament unveiled his party at the headquarters in Namirembe. Legislators like Hon. Abed Bwanika, Hon. Michael Kakembo, and Hon. Juliet Nakabuye, were among the faces see during the launch of the new political party Democratic Front (DF).
Mpuuga’s decision to form a new party comes after his fallout with NUP, which he co-founded ahead of the 2021 general elections. The tensions between Mpuuga and NUP’s leadership, started when Mathias Mpuga was alleged for corruption allegation of 500m which was claimed as a reward payment by government for his service as the leeader of opposition, particularly this lead to disagreements and division with President Robert Kyagulanyi.
The Democratic Front has been approved by the Electoral Commission, and Mpuuga is positioning it as a force to reckon with in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections. According to Mpuuga, the Democratic Front is a home for logical thinkers, progressive minds, and those who believe in political ethics and disciplined service delivery. But Political analysts look at this as another new threat to Opposition in Uganda.
