The Ugandan court has granted Bebe Cool’s forensics team permission to examine Alex Muhangi’s YouTube channel “Comedy Store UG” – to determine the financial benefits generated from uploading Bebe Cool’s content without his permission.
These started when Bebe Cool sued Alex Muhangi for copyright infringement, claiming that Muhangi uploaded his performances on YouTube without his consent. Bebe Cool demanded UGX 579 million (approximately $157,000) in compensation for damages caused by the alleged infringement.
In response, Alex Muhangi argued that the videos were posted for promotional purposes,– not for monetary gain. He claimed that it’s a company policy to post performances of all artists at the event, and Bebe Cool was aware of this also.
The court’s decision allows Bebe Cool’s forensics team to access Alex Muhangi’s YouTube channel to analyze the financial benefits generated from the uploaded content of Bebe cool’s performance. – However, there won’t be further court actions unless Bebe Cool and his lawyers decide to pursue the matter further.
If we could remember, – this isn’t the first time Bebe Cool and Alex Muhangi have clashed. The two were embroiled in a battle just a few months ago when Bebe Cool snubbed a performance at Comedy Store, allegedly due to a payment dispute. Muhangi broke down on TikTok Live – “Comedy Store has given Bebe Cool more than UGX 100 million. He was booked for the show, and I paid him my money.
